Welcome to "Tourism Snapshot of an Industry!"
This course has been designed to provide the participant with a broad understanding of travel and tourism industry. Various related fields and industries that are part of or complement the tourism industry which are discussed include:
- Sustainable Destination Management
- Events and Meeting Management
- Sports Management
- Hospitality and Food Service Management
- Tourism Research
- Transportation
- Tourism Policy, Planning and Development
By the end of this course, participants should gain the knowledge to:
- Discuss the significance of the phenomenon of travel and tourism in contemporary society.
- Relate how external constraints, determinants, and conditions have influenced the evolution and present characteristics of travel.
- Understand the key concepts of tourism and the related fields listed above.
- Identify and understand the role and importance of professional associations involved with tourism and related areas.
- Gain a general understanding of the career opportunities available within tourism and related areas.
This course is free to anyone who chooses to participant. It is a self-managed on-line course made up of eight units with a self-assessment quiz at the end. GW does not grant academic credit or CEUs for completing this course.
