The Africa RPED is an ongoing research project with the overall purpose of generating business knowledge and policy advice useful to private sector manufacturing development in Sub-Saharan Africa. The program does this through its long-standing (over 10 years) experience in firm-level data collection and case study analysis to provide policy advice to the World Bank, donor agencies, client governments and other interested parties seeking to improve the business environment in these countries. RPED pursues four key sets of activities:

This site provides links to donors and funding agencies that provide financial resources to tourism as well as other industries. Many of the sites have specific focuses such as technology, capital equipment etc.
The Eurasia Foundation
The Eurasia Foundation is a privately managed grant-making and operating organization dedicated to funding programs that build civil society and private enterprise in the countries of the former Soviet Union--Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan. A search of “tourism” in the “projects” drop down menu yields a number of projects that have received funding in the region.
The Global Heritage Fund
The Global Heritage Fund's mission is to enable successful long-term preservation of mankind's most important Global Heritage cultural sites in developing countries with acute pressures and without resources for preservation and planned development. The Global Heritage Fund is a private California non-profit organization based in the San Francisco Bay Area, and is developing independent fundraising affiliates in Boston, New York, Britain, France and Japan.
The Global Heritage Fund leads funding, planning and monitoring of critical preservation and restoration projects at Global Heritage cultural sites exclusively in developing countries which have few resources or the training necessary for preservation. Over 90% of GHF funding goes directly to on-site preservation and planned development projects backed by the long-term support of local communities.
Since 1974 HELCOM has initiated considerable investments in environmental protection, including financing from private industrial investors as well as national, regional and local authorities. During the past decade, environmental investment has increased dramatically, due to political changes and increasing public concern about the environment. Investment has mainly been directed towards reducing industrial pollution and improving municipal wastewater treatment, but measures to reduce pollution from transport and shipping and to protect habitats have also been funded.
HELCOM provides international funding in the form of loans, soft loans, grants and other assistance. The site also has a "sustainable development” page that provides information on the organizations sustainable development activities.
Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency – MIGA
MIGA is an institution of the World Bank Group with a specific mandate for promoting FDI to developing countries.
The site is useful for research as well as identifying opportunities for investment. It promotes investment through http://www.fdi.net/ which gives access to information about investment promotion agencies in developing countries. The site provides very current information about privatization opportunities in developing countries. Click on “Sectors” to the top left and "Travel/Tourism" (under Services) for opportunities and tenders. Putting “tourism” in the search strip also gets you to the same information. For any prospective investor this will be the first stop.
www.fdipromotion.com/ is a help site for practitioners of investment promotion.
Also ,this site provides up to date tender opportunities, under the tab “Opportunities”. It is a very useful resource for researching the subject of FDI, and there is a very comprehensive list of consulting companies, but be sure to know what donors are of interest, as it is not broken into areas of specialization.
Also note that registering a name and email (for free) may help in the usefulness of the site.
The Pacific Asia Travel Association
In recent years, the PATA Board has established a dedicated Sustainable Tourism Committee consisting of international volunteer members from a range of membership categories. Through the Committee, PATA remains committed to building awareness within the Asia Pacific tourism sector and advocates the need for sustainable tourism. United Nations Conference on Trade and Development – UNCTAD
UNCTAD is the focal point within the United Nations for the integrated treatment of trade and development and the interrelated issues in the areas of finance, technology, investment and sustainable development.
UNCTAD provides a lot of research material on FDI, a look at the home page will direct you to many reports on privatization, investment promotion and FDI. The reports have associated costs, but some of the summaries give a good impression of the contents. For further information on FDI, go to “Investment Technology and Enterprise Development” in the left hand menu and again click on “Foreign Direct Investment” to the left.
